Aldous Huxley spent his closing days dictating an article on Shakespeare to his wife
Laura. By the morning of
November
22 [1963] his condition was grave. His breathing became agitated, forcing him to alternate between verbal and
written
communication. Toward noon he wrote a note to his wife:
LSD — try it intermuscular — 100 mm —
Laura conferred with Huxley's doctor and then gave her husband the injection. About two hours later she
administered
another one. Huxley was silent, awake and appeared to be relieved and peaceful for the next few hours. He died
just
after 5:00 PM.
